Our room was spacious, light and fresh and the setting is beautiful, peaceful with a lovely swimming pool that we swam in and relaxed around. This was a tourist attraction near the Addo Elephant Reserve, although not affiliated with the sanctuary. These elephants roam free on the property most of the time, except when they are rounded up 3-4 times a day to carry foreigners like us around, very similar to trail rides on horses. We were told that as adolescents they were relocated to this park from a refuge in Zimbabwe to alleviate overcrowding. The guides who controlled and steered the elephants were all Zimbabwean, too. Riding one is a crazy experience because they’re so impossibly big, agile, and smart.

It makes its way through the coastal vegetation above the shoreline to the river mouth between the two headlands in the distance, where it incorporates three pedestrian suspension bridges.
