They love oranges.

This was at a tourist attraction near the Addo Elephant Reserve, although not affiliated with the sanctuary. These elephants roam free on the property most of the time, except when they are rounded up 3-4 times a day to carry foreigners like us around, very similar to trail rides on horses. We were told that as adolescents they were relocated to this park from a refuge in Zimbabwe to alleviate overcrowding. The guides who controlled and steered the elephants were all Zimbabwean, too. Riding one is a crazy experience because they’re so impossibly big, agile, and smart.

Ce qui permet d’étendre Addo National Elephant Park de 1 640 km2 à un Greater Addo Elephant National Park de 3 600 km2. L’agrandissement signifie non seulement que le parc accueille 5 des 7 grands types de végétation d’Afrique du Sud, mais est aussi le seul parc à accueillir le Big 7, à savoir l’éléphant, le rhinocéros, le lion, le buffle, le léopard, la baleine et le grand requin blanc, dans leur habitat naturel.
